In celebration of International Women’s Day, I am honored to share some of my favorite sentiments from extraordinary women whose words continue to inspire strength, courage, resilience, and purpose. Spanning continents, cultures, and generations, these leaders, writers, activists, scientists, and visionaries have each shaped the world in powerful ways. Together, their voices remind us that we are enough, that our stories matter, and that our potential is boundless. May their wisdom encourage us to rise boldly, lead authentically, and continue forging paths for the generations of women to come.

Identity & Self-Worth

“And I would find myself again. Not the same version of me that I was looking for, but a stronger version. A wiser version. A woman who knew that she was enough, just as she was. A woman who had been tried in the fire but instead of being burned by it, came out gold. A woman who finally, after doubting and questioning and striving and hustling for her worth for years… finally, finally came to the realization that she was and is and has always been… enough.” — Mandy Hale, author and empowerment blogger

“If someone else notices our qualities and talents, we think those parts of us must be worthwhile… We long for someone to discover us, admire us, colonize us. But why must it be another person? Why can’t you sail that voyage and explore yourself?” — Vironika Tugaleva, author and self-development speaker

“I am beginning to measure myself in strength, not pounds. Sometimes in smiles.” — Laurie Halse Anderson, award-winning author of young adult literature

“Your unique creative talents and abilities are flowing through you and are being expressed in deeply satisfying ways. Your creativity is always in demand.” — Louise Hay, motivational author and founder of Hay House

Voice & Truth

“We realize the importance of our voices only when we are silenced.” Nawal El Saadawi, Egyptian writer, physician, and feminist activist

“I am a woman with thoughts and questions and shit to say.” Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Nigerian author and feminist writer

“If you do not tell the truth about yourself you cannot tell it about other people.” — Virginia Woolf, pioneering English modernist writer

“All of my history as an African-American woman, as a Jewish woman, as a Muslim woman — I’m bringing everything I ever knew, and all the stories I’ve read — everything good, strong, kind and powerful. I bring it all with me into every situation, and I will not allow my life to be minimized by anybody’s racism or sexism or ageism.” Maya Angelou, celebrated poet, memoirist, and civil rights activist

Courage & Resilience

“Our painful experiences aren’t a liability — they’re a gift. They give us perspective and meaning, an opportunity to find our unique purpose and our strength.” Edith Eger, Holocaust survivor and renowned psychologist

Everyone has inside of her a piece of good news. The good news is that you don’t know how great you can be, how much you can love, what you can accomplish, and what your potential is.” Anne Frank, diarist whose writings during the Holocaust became one of the most important testimonies of hope and courage

“The road is long and has no ending; yet high and low I’ll search with my will unbending.” Tu Youyou, Chinese pharmaceutical chemist and Nobel Prize laureate who discovered artemisinin

“You don’t have to move fast or far. You can go just an inch. You can mark your progress breath by breath.” Cheryl Strayed, memoirist and novelist

Leadership & Action

“When you believe in something, fight for it. And when you see injustice, fight harder than you’ve ever fought before.” Yuriko Koike, Governor of Tokyo and Japan’s first female governor of the capital

“You have to practice success. Success doesn’t just show up. If you aren’t practicing success today, you won’t wake up in 20 years and be successful, because you won’t have developed the habits of success…” Michelle Obama, attorney, author, and former First Lady of the United States

“I never dreamed about success. I worked for it.” Estée Lauder, trailblazing entrepreneur and founder of a global beauty empire

“You have to look at leadership through the eyes of the followers and you have to live the message. What I have learned is that people become motivated when you guide them to the source of their own power and when you make heroes out of employees who personify what you want to see in the organization.” Anita Roddick, founder of The Body Shop and pioneer in ethical business and social activism

“I have always believed that women are not victims. We are agents of change, we are drivers of progress, we are makers of peace — all we need is a fighting chance.” Hillary Clinton, former U.S. Secretary of State, senator, and the first woman nominated for president by a major U.S. political party

“The size of your dreams must always exceed your current capacity to achieve them.” Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Liberian president and Africa’s first elected female head of state

Purpose & Possibility

“Tell me, what is it that you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” Mary Oliver, Pulitzer Prize–winning poet

“Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back: a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country.” Anaïs Nin, diarist and essayist

“Always remember, you have within you the strength, patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” Harriet Tubman, abolitionist and political activist who led enslaved people to freedom through the Underground Railroad

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we honor the voices of women from every corner of the world — women who have led nations, challenged injustice, created art, healed communities, broken barriers, and dared to dream beyond limitation. Though their stories are shaped by different cultures, histories, and experiences, their words rise together in a shared truth: strength is cultivated, courage is chosen, and change is possible.

These voices remind us that resilience can be forged in fire, that leadership begins with authenticity, and that progress is built through persistence. They show us that women are not only participants in history — we are authors of it. May we continue to uplift one another across borders and generations. May we speak boldly, lead compassionately, and believe fiercely in our own worth. And may we never forget that the power we celebrate in these remarkable women lives within each of us.

Happy International Women’s Day!
