Overall, the Canon 90D feels really solid – unlike some other DLSR’s that feel hollow but have the same size as a pro-DSLR. You can also achieve some creative results thanks to the Full HD at 120p. One thing I will point out is the overall weight of the 90D kit. Overall, Canon has done well to introduce and implement some of the current mirrorless technology into their existing digital SLRs. Fortunately, I was not disappointed. The build quality and construction are similar to the 80D. Is the Canon EOS 90D a good starting camera? These days the assumption is that we use a mirrorless camera when shooting video. On paper, these specifications culminate into a camera that represents a huge leap forward in this particular lineup of cameras. The pop-up flash seems to be the only weak point in the design. The increase in sensor resolution also increases the overall pixel density, which creates an effective resolution of 83-megapixels, in an equivalent full-frame camera. This addition makes this camera among the highest resolution APS-C cameras on the market to date, second only to Canon’s own M6 Mark II. Considering the predecessor lacked 4K recording altogether and housed only a 24-megapixel sensor. While many people believe that the business-end of a camera is in the front, all the action is really happening on the rear – so we’ll start there. That level of coverage is typically reserved for mirrorless cameras. The exterior shell is made from hardened plastic with all metal fixtures – lens mount and hot shoe – securely fixed in place. This screen on the 90D is reasonably bright and makes for a perfect vlogging and selfie screen. Photographers will surely appreciate the higher megapixel count and improved autofocusing system, while videographers will love DPAF and uncropped 4K capture. As such, we can still navigate both the Quick and Main menus via touch, swipe in playback, touch focus, and touch to shoot. Thanks to the use of the touch screen, you can select your subject to be tracked and the camera does the rest. As this is an SLR, it has two distinct focusing systems. It wouldn’t be a complete review without covering the video output of the Canon 90D. Awesome! Low light performance, while good, is not industry-leading by any means. This extra bump in resolution also comes without any degradation to the existing dynamic range, as well. And, ironically, this larger camera delivers a more pleasing grip that makes it a more comfortable experience than competing mirrorless cameras half its size. Interestingly, Canon opted to stick with Micro USB as opposed to USB-C with this camera. Physically, it resembles any other digital SLR. It makes me wonder why DSLRs are still so hefty – surely the mirror box is not that heavy? It’s primarily used to control menus. Its key strength is its low-light ISO (Sports) score of 2742 ISO, where it ranks in 27th place overall and in fifth place among the full-frame Canon cameras we’ve tested. Considering this is a DSLR, it performs to a level we expect from a mirrorless camera, all with the advantage of having an optical viewfinder instead of an electronic one. The Canon 80D was already a highly popular release from Canon, and this camera is proving to continue that tradition. For this price, it is a compelling contender for sports, action, or wildlife photography. Being a bit of a hybrid, the Canon 90D is able to shoot like a typical DSLR with an OVF, or as a mirrorless-style camera via the Live Mode system using the rear screen. What’s more, it comes at an excellent price for a camera of this quality. Yes. Only 0.2 EV(ISO 2742 vs. 3207) separates the EOS R from the best-performing Canon sensor, found in th… But the performance to price ratio here is quite competitive. When composing via the optical viewfinder, it uses Canon’s midrange 45 all cross-type AF focusing system, the same as the predecessor, so no improvements there. Ich nutze die Kamera hauptsächlich für Eventfotografie (Konzerte etc.). Also keep in mind that body weight is not the only deciding factor when comparing two interchangeable camera bodies, you have to also take into account the lenses that you will be using with these bodies. It provides a significant jump in resolution over the predecessor, which only has a 24-megapixel sensor. The problem is, this system is much slower at focusing than the viewfinder, which delivers almost sports like AF performance. But where the Canon 5D Mark IV really shines is in its high ISO performance. It has a UHS-II compatible SD card slot, which helps minimize buffering during continuous shooting. Dual Pixel AF (DPAF) also carries over into 4K recordings as well, which is a massive addition. The history lesson is over but I still have a lot to say on the brilliant Canon 90D DSLR. It represents a significant improvement over the predecessor. The deep grip has a single command dial for altering your settings as well as the shutter button. In practical tests, I found that the autofocus system is fast and responsive – I tested this out with both a 50mm f/1.4 and the 24-70mm f/2.8 L. However, the autofocus on the 90D was only fast and accurate 100% of the time in good light. The focusing system on the Canon 90D is quite comprehensive with several clever AF modes. To further support the capabilities of the Canon 90D, there’s a huge selection of Canon EF lenses available plus a big range of third-party lenses from Sigma and Tamron. However, outside of that, this arguably becomes Canon’s best midrange video and vlogging camera to date, be it mirrorless or DSLR. Plus the 90D is two years newer and newer tech almost always trumps older tech. In summary, the 90D is a game setting release from Canon. Nonetheless, Canon has provided an excellent refresh to the predecessor, with only minor setbacks in the camera’s larger capabilities. The Canon EOS R’s CMOS sensor achieves an overall DxOMark score of 89 points, which is 29th place among all small- and medium-format cameras in our database. I was able to test out the 90D with the Canon EF 24-70mm f2.8 Mark II which retails for around US$1600 and the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 which goes for around US$400. Are digital SLR still a dying breed? Autofocus Performance. The Canon EOS 90D, released fall of this year, arrives three years following the release of the insanely popular EOS 80D. It makes an excellent and compelling upgrade for the previous 70D or 80D users. The Canon 80D was already a highly popular release from Canon, and this camera is proving to continue that tradition. This kind of burst performance is quite an achievement considering the resolution of its sensor, and it’s pricing towards the enthusiast market, not the pros. The Canon 90D and its focusing system would be reliable for sports photography and portraits providing the lighting is suitable. Not only does this camera dominate other APS-C cameras in resolution, but it also does so sporting impressive continuous shooting speeds. As we have discussed, the Canon 90D has a huge sensor for an enthusiast-level camera. In all, it can easily supply usable images up to ISO 6,400 with only slight color shifting and moderate noise. The Canon 90D with the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L Mark II would be great for travel. Overall this is a 60% increase in resolution over the outgoing 7D Mark II and surprisingly makes this small APS-C camera quite comparable to Canon’s 5D Mark IV, a full-frame camera. But, this camera serves as a prime example of what is possible when past meets present. The 80D was a huge and successful release from Canon. We doubt this will end the larger movement towards mirrorless technology, however. For the most part, modern-day cameras are all at such a great standard in terms of image quality that it can be hard to differentiate. Großartig für die Momente, bei denen man mittendrin sein muss. One of the more recent developments is the Canon EOS 90D – an enthusiast-level DSLR with some impressive specs and capabilities. As a result, holding the camera and accessing all of the necessary functions is easy as they are all within reach and you are not bumping one to access another. As such, at around US$1200, it’s exceptional value for money. With that, you will not get the full 4K resolution and detail expected. Now I know somebody is going to say larger pixels (6D Mk II) is better in low light, that is mostly BS in this case so don't believe it. It’s quite a good option even over Canon’s own newly released M6 Mark II. At first, I thought it was the 50mm that was struggling but the same occurred on the 24-70mm lens. First, the Canon 5D Mark IV features strong low-light autofocus. It only has a single SD card slot. You can control the menu via the rear click wheel and directional pad or you can use the touch screen for full control – this is something that a lot of other camera brands are still working out.
